THE MOON - POETRY

September 26, 2017 VICTORIA UKPAKA 0 Comments

How amazing!
Comfort of the night to the night traveler
How your fullness shows the path
How calming after the scorching of the sun
How relieving not to be afraid of what lurches in dark corners

How significant!
You exhude strength and companionship
Reflecting the glow of the sun
Converting its heat to calming balm

Bright fluorescence of the night

How curious!
The side we view we see with
But curiosity gnaws at me
What happens on your dark side?
What secrets does it hide?
Your double sides reflect man
A moon with the dark side as one person wrote

How dynamic!
Your different shapes exhudes levels
As you gradually unravel your ultimate glory
In the fullness your periodic lunar
From crescent to fullness
but when you are absent
How dismal and discouraging
The night becomes.

Oh moon! Full of character you are!

MUSE

September 20, 2017 VICTORIA UKPAKA 0 Comments

I have run the race of one who expect his dues
My mind numb as it’s scarred with bruise
On this race; I stumbled on the laces of my shoes
But lo! The race I ran brought me to you my muse

Like whisper, your name dropped
I hastened like fire was under my feet
I gave heed to the cues
The very whisper of your name in my heart
Like balm, the sight of you calmed my hurting bruise
Your lips shaped like the Cupid’s bow
Glisten as you moisten them with your tongue
While words like salve to a wound
Lifted me up and out of the cold blues

Whoever said that the dark will always linger
When like the sun you turned the night to day
With the brightness of your smile
As your large eyes fringed with long lashes
Glitters like two diamonds
they Pierced my being shedding me of my walls
And with humour, your eyes sparkle as they
Drew me in into their precious secrets
In anger, your eyes steely and hard they become
But the engraved laugh lines tells me all is clear
And that’s all I need to hear
Your golden coloured skin, tingles my fingers
With vibrant electricity
Yet they are yet to touch them
How baby soft and firm I know they will be
As the line that frame them remains luminescent
Oh how can I bridge the gap
That distance wedged between us
To change the anonymity
To your awareness of my identity
To be able to cradle your heart shaped face
And trace every angle and line
To admire the cuteness of your dimples
Even across the distance
Your lithe frame exudes power and grace
And your long fingers exudes strength
As it tells its tales of fortitude
Your eyes lit up, twinkling with mischief
It gleamed like diamonds in the night
As you savoured the glory of the night’s beauty
What is not privy to others
Is your eyes glistened with tears
As you observed the bane of humanity
Your nostrils flared at the injustice
That the unprotected go through
And with your mouth set in hard lines
You set out to save the day
Ne’er the less with you my muse
I will grace the screens with news

As my finger tingles to hasten, to increase the views

Inspiration,

FOR CLOSURE

September 17, 2017 VICTORIA UKPAKA 0 Comments

WHEN LOSS HAPPENS;

Have you ever felt like your heart is being ripped from your chest? You want to cry but the tears are too heavy to fall. Then you wonder if it’s all some kind of test or its just you or the pain is also felt by the rest. Even then, how could anyone understand how you feel?  Every second feels like an hour because moving on from the pain seem so impossible, wondering if you will ever be the same again, if the sun will break forth through the heavyset clouds?
Have you ever felt you have been dealt a great injustice and you wished you can turn back the hands of time to stop what had happened or change it or appreciate each second that you feel you wasted? Have you really ever cried so much that you have no tears anymore instead groans that roar your pain break out from your throat?

JOURNEY OF PAIN;

Losing someone you love or cared deeply for, to death, to circumstances of change, to the distance of the oceans, to factors that you are powerless to fight against, to factors that you wished that you can afford the ammo to prevent; can hurt so deeply that every breath is laboured and every step is heavy and time seem to slow down and you wish constantly for the pain to ease.
Sometimes it seems that the one leaving people behind is selfish because those left behind are left to deal with the loss but then life has to continue. How hard it is to continue being normal, normal becomes overrated. When distance of continents and oceans creates the chasm it’s never the same anymore, the loved ones on this side will have to learn to move on, to adjust and learn to live again. Death is inevitable but no matter how often it happens, no one ever gets used to it. Often times we can’t relate on a personal ground with those who have lost loved ones because we have never known that kind of pain. Oh how fortunate! So never you say you understand when you have not been there because you don’t!

THE ACCEPTANCE AND MOVING ON:

Sea, Water, Ocean, Spray, Blue, Inject

It’s never easy to go on and it’s never the same, but the best to ever do is cherish the good memories, reminding yourself, keeping them alive in your heart while doing yourself a great favour by living again, taking it one day at a time. Learning to make good use of times you have with your loved ones, understanding that times change and we have to change with it while we maintain our core nature. As one who is empathizing and sympathizing, understand that people dealing with loss do not need platitudes because they feel mocked, so help them by doing the little things; a shoulder to cry on, an arm to lean on, the support to go on, the light of laughter and the healing balm of love. As for you who has lost someone accept and surround yourself with life, with love through people that will remind you that life is still worth more than taking it a day at a time thereby finding closure.

TIME

September 17, 2017 VICTORIA UKPAKA 0 Comments

AN ESSAY ABOUT TIME;
we underestimate time, thinking we have it in our grasp when its independent of whatever we do.

DEFINITION
Wikipedia describes time as the indefinite continued progress of existence and events that occur in apparently irreversible succession from the past through the present to the future. Also time is a component quantity of various measurement s used to sequence events, to compare the duration of events, or the intervals between them, and to quantify rates of change of quantities in material reality or in the conscious experience.

IN VIEW OF THE ABOVE;
Time is one of the constants of life and we often neglect its impact on every area of our life, forgetting it doesn’t pause for anyone neither does it return for anyone. In lieu of this, we should then consider time as an important factor in our day to day activities. Paraphrasing a popular adage, a wise man makes hay while the sun shines. If you know what hay is, you will understand its important to gather it as the sun is up because no hay is useful if its damp or cold or gathered under the rain. Understanding that the time you have, the now that you have is a gift is one the prerequisite of making impact on life. Life is a gift and it’s in sync with time. How we use the time we have now is very necessary. Time is limitless but the life of every living thing has limit, why live like you have all the time when you don’t?
When you look around at everything that exists you will realise that each exists with a purpose and abuse of these purpose comes in when its purpose is not known. To everything that exists there is time allocated to each one of them, and time in itself doesn’t stop or change its nature to accommodate any of them, it’s always in continuum.

IN OTHER WORDS;
Since time remains constant in its nature, why then do we waste the limited one that we have been given within this dimension that we exist in? There is so much to do in a limited time of a hundred years, though so many never get to reach that age. Why waste time on wars and disagreements that never yield what man seem to so much desire which is “freedom” and “comfort”? There are so many people who sleep away the limited earthly years they have thinking they have a lot of time left only to realise later that they are too old to achieve what they really wanted to achieve. As a young person, there is physical strength to pay the price needed to have the glorious future of your old age but as an elderly person; the waning strength is almost not resilient enough to withstand the price that being successful requires. The relationship between where you are now and where you want to be is “TIME”, and that time is now. The worst enemy of success is procrastination, putting off what you are supposed to do today to tomorrow and the vicious cycle continues and one day you impose your underachieved dreams and vision on your children ignoring the fact that to every individual is a unique purpose and no one can ever be you.
Therefore it is wise to use time judiciously.

ode,

ODE TO STRANGERS

September 17, 2017 VICTORIA UKPAKA 0 Comments

To the ones I am yet to know;
Strolling down the side walk with no particular location in mind
Arms gently swinging by my sides in sync with my paces
My face slightly turned towards the soft rays of the midmorning sun
The rest of me sheltered in my coat cos the air was chilly enough
I skimmed the faces of all that strode down beside me
All these faces, none familiar, none aware of my curiosity

Arms in stride we all tread down the paths
Each person locked into their own personal world
With their next destination and action guiding their steps
Many faces that hid the true on-going of each mind
Hiding perfectly behind the public façade I perused like a detective
All these many people that do not know each other
How do we cross the line of being strangers to being friendly?

It’s interesting to play the game of guesswork
Relying on the different play of emotions on each face
Trying to decipher the story each tell
Even as a situation like bumping into each other
Changes our status from being strangers to the awareness of each other
And this becomes the determinant of whether we will move up the status
To being friendly or back to inevitable strangers

Oh stranger, whom I am yet to know
How I want to know what makes you tick!
